The month: January. The year: 2010.
Gamers wait anxiously to spend their remaining Christmas cash on the early release titles of the year.

Lets get you on top of the game with a few suggestions for the coming months.

Mass Effect 2 (link)
The monolith drops on January 28th. If you were a fan of the first game, I have no doubts you will splash out on the sequel. If you haven't played Mass Effect, you could either love it or hate it. Since the original Mass Effect is only 19.99 on Steam, maybe you should give it a go?

Global Agenda (link)
This FPS/MMO mixer hits stores on Feb 02. You can pay a one time fee (buying the game) and play for free without the MMO perks, or pay a monthly rate for the full monty. Visit the website for more detais.

Star Trek Online (link)
Trekkies, MMOers or gamers splashing-out will be lining up to give this fledgling MMO a try. It's out on Feb 02, also.

Bioshock 2 (link)
Can you believe I haven't even played the first one yet? Everyone hyped it like crazy, so I guess this one should be amazing. Either that or they've used all the money for sex, drugs and rock 'n roll, and the game sucks ass. We'll find out on Feb 09.

Aliens vs Predator (link)
We loved Alien vs Predator, we quaked in our boots all through (the Human missions of) Alien vs Predator 2, how could we NOT wait eagerly for the reincarnation of the 11 year old game franchise! Feb 18.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction (link)
This is the first game on my mind right now. If this game flops I'll never be sane again. Another addition to the wonderous Splinter Cell series. I recommend playing through the series if you haven't already, it's wonderous. It's out on February 25th.

Napoleon: Total War (link)
Feb 28th brings us yet another Total War game, no doubt bearing various improvements. I'm not much into strategies, but if they float your boat, this is the one you're gonna want to look into this quarter.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat (link)
I'm told S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was scary as shit, so I haven't gotten within 10 feet of it, and since it looks somewhat prehistoric now, I don't think I ever will. Call of Pripyat looks like it'll follow in the footsteps of its older brother, and looks certainly won't keep me away from it this time around. Again, Feb 28.

The more you know.

The List
May CRComic.net be the latest website to welcome you to the New Year!
The Christmas / New Years break has been filled with giving, so I'm extending the tradition to you, the reader, with this list:

Five Must Play Flash Games for 2010
(in no specific order, images courtesy of Armorgames)

Replaying the Game
If you've been living under the proverbial rock for the past decade, Replaying the Game should hopefully bring you back to speed. This seemingly repetitive, politically motivated game has made its way into my five with an insightful look into the decade, quirky visuals and great music. Scoreboard and Unlockables to boot :).

Achievement Unlocked
Ok, I played this one a while ago, and I've been meaning to give it tribute since, so this is it. Somehow this super-simplistic game is a great insight into this generation's games.
It's not all satire though, I enjoyed it for the whole minute or so it takes to complete.

Use Boxmen
Don't let the simple graphics fool you, this game is quite a challenge. As far as flash games go, it'll last you a moderate amount of time, and it has a real charm to it. If you can, try not to look up a walkthrough, you'll get there with persistence. (There are sometimes multiple ways to approach a puzzle)

Little Wheel
In contrast to the last game (all the above games, actually), the visuals in this game are simply amazing. It's no Crysis, of course, but the animation is very smooth, a lot of detail has gone in, and visually it is just very polished. The puzzles are weak at best, but I can't stress how blown away I was by the graphics.

Fantastic Contraption
Admittedly I have been playing a lot of puzzle games, so they are vastly overrepresented in this list, but this game definately deserves a mention. I really enjoyed engineering machines to best the scenarios presented in Fantastic Contraption, and I have no doubt many of you will share in my enthusiastic appraisal of it.
